Baptisia x 'Purple Smoke'
|
Purple Smoke Wild Indigo- Rob Gardner, propagation curator at NC Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill, NC, discovered this exciting selection. It has the charcoal stem and the gray-green foliage of White Wild Indigo (Baptisia alba) with flowers that are a smoky violet with a purple eye. The plant itself forms an eye-catching vase shape, which will lend architectural structure to your garden. Numerous flowers open first at the base of the flower stalk and ascend upwards, topping out at 4'. Mature plants can bear over 50 blooming stalks in the spring. Easy to grow and long lived in any sunny location in lean, well-drained soil. A great drought tolerant native plant! Space 24"s apart and plan on a moderate rate of growth.
